When I attended this show I expected a good night out
but the number of artists that turned up (and paid their own admission!) was tremendous.
The affection held for Dave was obvious as over 30 acts took the stage each performing
one song from Dave's repertoire along with his favourites from their own.
The evening was presented in three parts and raised £1100 for Bury Hospice. Unfortunately as I was working on the Sunday morning I had to leave at the end of the second part at 12:45am and forgo the pleasure of seeing the third set (which included The Hometowners, Mike Canavan, John Howarth of the Oldham Tinkers and others) along with the Sunday morning breakfast (or was Tony Downes joking!)
Overall a wonderful evening in the company of friends, some of whom I hadn't seen for years, and great reminder of the quality and volume of Dave's material. Dave along with 'The Waggon Inn Folk Club' and Jolly Jack will be sadly missed but thanks to Jean, his family and friends and hopefully more evenings like this, won't be forgotten
